Fuel Mileage

18Jun09

Today I was curious as to how much money I’m losing every month driving a car that doesn’t get the best gas mileage.  My truck gets about 19mpg on the interstate.  I travel an average of about 30 miles per day and gas prices are currently around 2.40/gallon.  This costs me about $3.79/day in fuel costs.

Our Honda Fit does a little better at about 32mpg, making it about $2.25/day.  The difference in the two break down to this:

  • $1.54/day
  • $7.70/week
  • $33.88/month
  • $406.56/year

The evidence does not suggest that you should go out and buy a new car just for the gas mileage… but it does show that if you’re in the market to change your ride anyways, good fuel efficiency should be a high priority on your list.

Here’s a few pics of the Fit.
